Prince goes in for flight of fancy
IT'S hard to know whether Philippine First Lady Ming Ramos had the current domestic travails of Prince Charles in mind when she brought a romantic note to the World Congress on Urban Growth and the Environment held at the Convention Centre yesterday.
Talking of the problems the first Protestant president of her country (ie, her husband) was having in introducing birth control measures, Ming said: 'But you see, we Filipinos are so romantic'.
Almost as if taking his cue from Ming, Charles - who followed her to the rostrum - started his speech with a few lines from William Wordsworth before adding: 'I quote it not because I am an incurable romantic - although I may well be.' Is that the sound of loud laughter we hear from the direction of Kensington Palace?
