Souza and Tso roll into semis

CRAIGENGOWER Cricket Club duo David Tso and George Souza kept the territory's colours flying in the pairs competition of the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic by advancing to the semi-finals at the Kowloon Bowling Green Club yesterday.

Tso and Souza started the day on the wrong note when they lost 15-24 to the home club combination of Tony King and Adam Poynton in their final preliminary match in the morning, but that did not stop from going through to the quarter-finals.

The CCC pair finished fourth in Section One behind South African Donny Piketh and Neil Burkett, Fijians Curtis Mar and Caucau Turababeci and Australians Robbie Ball and Rex Johnston.

They were the only local team to advance as Anthony Carstairs and Noel Kennedy, the official Hong Kong side, just failed to make the cut when they placed fifth to Wales, Israel, New Zealand and Scotland in Section Two.

Tso and Souza were at their best when they stopped Section Two winners Will Thomas and David Wilkins of Wales 24-19 in their quarter-final tie.

The other semi-final will be between South Africa and Australia.
