GERMANY'S Michael Schumacher won the Formula One World Drivers' Championship in controversial style in Adelaide yesterday after being involved in a crash with his main rival, Britain's Damon Hill.

Both drivers were forced to retire after they crashed on lap 36 of a thrilling 81-lap race eventually won by Briton Nigel Mansell. Schumacher took the title by just one point.
