Jun Kung's band lets rip and steals the show at fashion party
The clothes almost seemed an afterthought at the Tommy Hilfiger Denim party at Prive on Wednesday night.
Mannequin displays perched near the Lan Kwai Fong club's VIP area were difficult to see, but that was quickly ignored when Jun Kung and his band of merry men, The Junk Unit (right), stepped onto the stage.
Since his solo concert last September, the consummate live musician has been keeping quiet, playing drums occasionally for buddy Eugene Pao and his band The Powz. Pao returned the favour, playing lead guitar to Kung's vocals. The 45-minute set was no doubt a treat for jazz-funk fans among the guests.
Kung's well-worn motto, 'the more you drink, the better we sound', took a while to kick in with the crowd. The singer's initial attempts to get the audience to sing along was met with limited success; but as the evening progressed and booze flowed, the energy picked up and guests were letting loose as much as they could on the packed floor.
Having worked up a sweat, Kung raised a glass to his band mates and the audience, saying: 'Thanks for being here. There's nothing I love more than playing live, here with you.'
