Architect brings the skyline to the floor

Now, you don't have to book him for a complete home revamp to get a bespoke piece of design by popular architect Andre Fu. The local talent has collaborated with Tai Ping Carpets Group for a collection of rugs that can be custom ordered.

To honour the luxury carpeting company's Chinese origins - it was founded in Hong Kong 50 years ago - Fu incorporated modern Oriental elements into his design. 'I didn't want to do something Chinese in a literal way. I wanted something that embodies the new Asian aesthetics and the highly urbanised environment that we are living in,' Fu said at the launch party at the Sky Lounge in The Upper House, the chic hotel also designed by Fu. The result is a collection of designs inspired by the skyline. 'It's something very feminine when you first look at it, and when you look closer you see the very masculine pattern,' Fu said.

Apart from the carpets project, the design wonder boy has a book coming out this month. His first hardback will feature a retrospective of his works of the past 10 years. 'I was lucky that I've been entrusted with many exciting projects. But I also believe that trust is earned.'
