The latest news on Japan's triple disaster:

A 7.1-magnitude earthquake shook the Tohoku region, southwest of Iwaki yesterday. A tsunami warning was issued for Ibaraki prefecture and then lifted. At least one wave, as high as 1 metre, struck. The quake cut power to those working on the nuclear reactor, but power was swiftly restored.

Japan's government said it was urging even more people to evacuate the area around the Daiichi nuclear plant in Fukushima, which has been leaking radiation. Those within a 30km radius were being told to move.

Japan fell silent at 2.46pm yesterday to commemorate exactly one month since the earthquake hit.
