The Legislative Council's public accounts committee yesterday decided to launch an inquiry into government spending on hosting the East Asian Games, following an Audit Commission report on Wednesday, stating that the administration had underestimated the expenditure - which came to HK$291 million - by 21.3 per cent. Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing said he welcomed the move.
