New sports centre will be a boon

The Home Affairs Bureau is going to finance a project to build a sports complex in Tiu Keng Leng. I think it is a very good move. In a district that has a high population of teenagers, this facility will enable young people to find creative outlets for their energies. That way, more of them will stay away from street gangs.

If youngsters have nothing to do but hang out on streets or in parks, they are more likely to get into trouble. More leisure facilities for young people will ensure they can spend their time in more rewarding ways. With fewer gangs on the street, residents will enjoy greater security and peace of mind. Everyone will benefit.

I am lucky that there are adequate facilities where I live. Having said that, there is a shortage of outdoor facilities for people who want to exercise and play sports. Hopefully, the government will continue expanding the range of leisure facilities in new towns across the city.

Thank you for your letter, Ting-ting. We're very happy about the plans for the new sports complex. It's a wonderful way to encourage people to spend their time in a healthy and positive manner. Hopefully, it will help sports activities to bloom throughout the city so that people can get out of their homes and start playing sports together.

It will also be a great place for making new friends and meeting up with old ones. I agree with you that it would be great if similar sports and leisure centres were built in more new towns across the city. They would improve everyone's quality of life.
