Mainland telecommunications giant China Mobile and Alcatel-Lucent have signed a deal on joint research and development of advanced wireless-networking technologies. It includes further work on the energy and space-saving LightRadio technology that Paris-based Alcatel-Lucent created. With LightRadio, the components of a large cellular tower or base station can be compressed to the size of a Rubik's cube-sized device. China Mobile chairman Wang Jianzhou said the alliance would help evolve 'our network technology to support the next-generation of mobile-based applications'.
