Bear Hero was set to win the first griffin race of the season, and while connections had to wait a while after that fixture was cancelled, trainer David Ferraris and jockey Weichong Marwing still collected the spoils in the first juvenile event of this season. 'Bear Hero was ready for the first griffin race that was cancelled earlier this month after his two good trial wins, so it was only a matter of David keeping him ticking along until today,' Marwing said. 'He's a big, raw horse, and he's still a bit slow at the start, but he puts himself in a winning position quickly. Maybe he didn't beat much, but he's got the makings of a very good horse and I don't want to get ahead of myself, but he can still improve on what he did today.' Bear Hero pounded his rivals in a dominant 43/4 lengths win down the straight 1,000m course, beating Full Tank by a widening margin to justify the strong support which made him the first of many odds-on victors.
