French screen goddess in sparkling form
'We share a love of art and cinema, and ideas on the evolving values of time and female beauty.' French actress Sophie Marceau (pictured) could have been speaking about an old friend, but she was, in fact, describing her relationship with jewellery house Chaumet at the brand's 'Creating Watches for 200 Years' exhibition launch in Central yesterday.
While Marceau is comfortable humanising the brand she represents, those at Chaumet prefer to see the actress as a talisman of sorts. 'Sophie was with us in Hong Kong five years ago for the flagship store opening; she has brought us much luck and success,' brand president Thierry Fritsch said as he gazed reverently at the tall, tanned screen goddess. 'We are happy that she is able to grace us again with her presence at this important exhibition.'
Chatting with the press, the actress revealed that during her first trip to Hong Kong 13 years ago, she met famed movie producer Raymond Chow, and has long admired the talent of such actors as Maggie Cheung, Jackie Chan and Jet Li. 'Yours is a country of cinema,' she said. 'I would love to make a movie in China; it's a matter of finding a scenario and a part that I can see myself in.'
While an opportunity to work in Asia may yet materialise, Marceau is presently gearing up to shoot a romantic comedy in Paris in a few weeks.
