Cases of deception up 20pc

The number of deception cases reported in the first quarter of this year rose 20 per cent to 1,386 from 1,147 in the 2010 period, the Legislative Council heard yesterday. Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee Siu-kwong said police had noted deception was increasing on the internet and had set up a team to tackle the crime and liaise with internet services providers. Overall, 18,368 cases of crime were reported in the period, a slight decrease from 18,806 in 2010.
