Trainer Sean Woods might just as easily have carried Dalkan home under his arm after the four-year-old scored his first local win following a dashing ride by apprentice Derek Leung Ka -chun. Leung stayed to the inside and threaded between horses to arrive in the final strides of the Class Four 1,800m, but he probably had the right horse to do it. 'He's a tiny horse - if he was much smaller he might only qualify as a pony - but he's slowly come to hand and the drop to Class Four was a help today,' he said. 'Derek didn't panic and gave him a nice ride and it's good to see the horse win as his owner is a newcomer to my yard. He's got a couple of horses in Australia and one of them will be coming towards the end of the year.' Leung had a busy day, with reprimand for his ride later on Lombardi and a HK$5,000 fine for dropping his whip for the fifth time this season.
