Mainland arrivals increase 21pc

During the Labour Day holiday, visitor arrivals from the mainland reached 303,637, a rise of 21.6 per cent year on year. Arrivals on Saturday broke the single-day mainland arrival record at 122,893. Three-quarters travelled under the Individual Visit Scheme, 20 per cent up on last year.

Travel alert for Maldives

The government issued an amber Outbound Travel Alert for the Maldives where protesters have demanded the removal of the president. About 40 Hongkongers have joined tours to there, Travel Industry Council executive director Joseph Tung Yao-chung said.

Construction worker killed

A worker died in hospital after a wooden plank fell on him at a Central-Wan Chai bypass construction site in Man Yiu Street.
