Classical David Yurman

United States Ambassador Donald Beyer visited the David Yurman booth to see one of only six US brands among the 80 exhibiting at BaselWorld this year.

While David Yurman is still considered a relatively new name in the horological world, the brand has gained renown for timepieces that capture the very essence of American luxury.

Since the launch of the David Yurman Classic collection in 2009, the brand has strengthened its line with several traditional three-hand models, plus chronographs and a complication.

With the release of the Ladies Classic watches last year, brand founder David Yurman hinted that the black and red theme, so popular in the brand's jewellery lines, would soon appear in its timepieces. It didn't take long for Yurman's promise to come through, as the brand released the new Classic GMT Worldtime this year.

The Classic GMT is the collection's second and newest complication watch, the first being the David Yurman Classic Moonphase. The elegant watch showcases a black galvanic dial with a guilloche outer zone showing local time, marked by applied Arabic numerals and indices. Inside this ring, an opaline centre zone shows the second time zone, indicated by a red arrow. Encircling both is the rotating inner bezel featuring 24 cities, 23 of which are printed in white, while New York, the brand's original home, is in red.

The Swiss automatic movement behind this striking GMT display has a 42-hour power reserve and is housed in a 43.5mm stainless steel case, with the brand's signature integrated cable design visible from the side. The top crown, which adjusts local time, features the David Yurman logo, while a globe diagram can be found on the bottom crown, which adjusts the world cities scale. On the back, the exhibition caseback showcases the custom skeleton rotor, marked with the David Yurman logo. The Classic GMT comes with a matte black alligator strap.

David Yurman has unveiled the new Classic steel and 18kt gold model in three editions, all of which follow the simple, elegant designs seen in the Ladies Classic models released last year. The new collection is versatile and elegant in its two-toned steel and gold palette, and it is available in three editions: a 30mm watch and two 38mm versions, one with a white diamond set bezel, one without.

The Classic GMT is available at the brand's boutiques and retailers, while the Classic steel and 18kt gold editions will be available in September.
