Why you can trust SCMP

When it comes to movements, Swiss watchmaker Perrelet has always been ahead of its time.

Founder Abraham-Louis Perrelet, who devoted nearly 80 years of his life to perfecting horology, invented the automatic movement in 1777.

In 1827, his equally gifted grandson Louis-Frederic Perrelet received a patent for his chronograph counter with a fly-back hand, which is now housed in the prestigious Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva.

In 1995, the brand patented its exclusive calibre, the Perrelet P-181, featuring automatic winding and allows the wearer to look at the rotors on the dial and the movement sides.

At BaselWorld, the brand showed it still has what it takes to produce timepieces that make the industry sit up and take notice.

'It is important for Perrelet to be different from the other brands out there - accessible and instantly recognisable,' says CEO Fausto Salvi.
