Sammy's Adventures: The Secret Passage (film)
Sammy's Adventures: The Secret Passage is the kind of film that makes you want to grab your dusty backpack and head off for an adventure of discovery in faraway lands.
Sammy (voiced by Dominic Cooper) is a sea turtle who hatches from an egg on a deserted beach together with hundreds of other turtles. But he gets trapped inside the sand hole where the eggs were buried. And so his trials begin.
He manages to get out but then is caught by a seagull. The bird is also carrying a female sea turtle called Shelly (Gemma Arterton). The two young turtles make their escape - only to fall into the sea and become separated.
Sammy sets out to track down Shelly. His search becomes a worldwide trip, taking him from California to the Antarctic and the Panama Canal.
He encounters many dangers and makes some new friends along the way.
At the heart of the film is an environmentalist message. Sammy witnesses melting icecaps and encounters oil spills.
And so the movie is more than just a feel-good story with 3D animation featuring speaking animals and scenic environments. Sammy learns through his own discoveries what is truly important in life.
The plot is child-like in its simplicity. Yet this tale of self-discovery should appeal to both youngsters and their parents.
