At $1.80, super Whyte looks a worthy favourite
Oddsmakers have pegged the Jockey Challenge as a two-man race between $1.80 favourite Douglas Whyte and Matthew Chadwick ($2.50), with Brett Prebble next in the market at $11 - and, despite the odds-on quote, Whyte looks the man to be on.
What makes Whyte all the more appealing is the fact that he will begin his four-meeting careless riding suspension after this fixture at Sha Tin, and the Durban Demon will be hungry to consolidate his 16-win premiership lead before he leaves for a holiday.
He gets plenty of chances to do just that today, and the action will be coming thick and fast for Whyte's supporters with a full book of 10 excellent chances to cheer throughout the afternoon.
Bingo Key, Prosperity, Real General and Har Har Charms are all genuine winning chances and should ensure Whyte scores heavily early in the meeting.
Pillowin should not be discounted as a knockout chance in the fifth after two horror draws at the Valley at his prior two starts, last-start winner Adoration has obvious claims, despite his tougher assignment from gate 12, and Sapelli could prove dangerous stepping up to the 2,400m for the first time in the feature.
Goodview Successor and National Treasure can keep the ball rolling, but there is little doubt that Whyte has saved the best for last with unbeaten Costa Del Sol.
