Good draw and nice ride make difference

Jockey Way Leung Ming-wai doubled his season win statistic with a well-judged front-running effort on the Alex Wong Yu-on Gilded Flight in the Lo Wu Saddle Club Handicap on the all-weather track. Leung had recorded only one win prior to yesterday's event, but made the most of a slow tempo to drive his seven-year-old to the wire. It was an overdue win for Wong, who fired in a protest in the prior race when Goldmen Y Y was inconvenienced in finishing third to Young Hero and Zephyrus. 'Goldmen Y Y would have won, but the jockey dropped his whip and the stewards ruled the winner wasn't responsible for the interference,' Wong said. 'Gilded Flight got an inside draw and Way rode him well, which made up for our earlier luck. 'He went close last time over 1,400m at Sha Tin, which was a sign he was getting down to a suitable point in the ratings.'
