Women's doubles pair Tie Yana and Jiang Haujun are on course for their second World Championship medal following a significant 4-0 victory over strong rivals Feng Tianwei and Wang Yuegu of Singapore in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, yesterday.

The Hong Kong duo, who won a bronze medal at the last world event in Yokohama two years ago, reached the last eight following an 11-6,11-7, 11-8, 11-9 win. They now need to beat Hiroko Fujii and Misako Wakamiya of Japan today to guarantee themselves a bronze medal, as there is no play-off for third and fourth.

'They finished off their opponents with great confidence,' coach Li Huifen said. 'The victory came as a morale booster, but the Japanese duo will be a big hurdle as they defeated Tie and Jiang in Guangzhou.'

Hong Kong are guaranteed a bronze medal in the mixed doubles after Jiang and her partner, Cheung Yuk reached the semi-finals with a 4-3 win over Kim Hyok-bong and Kim Jong of North Korea.
