1. Wayfaring Stranger - Emmylou Harris

My playlist is never without Emmylou. A little bit of country, a little bit of rock'n' roll and a whole lot of soulfulness; she defies conventions without posturing as rebellious.

2. My Humps - Alanis Morissette

A delicious case for irony. Morissette's moody rendition of the Black Eyed Peas' tongue-in-cheek tribute to body parts actually turns the song's seriousness on us. Morissette still matters.

3. I Want None of This - Radiohead

Agony and disgust that comforts - what rock music is about.

4. Cavalleria rusticana, intermezzo - Pietro Mascagni

No lover of film would not adore this melancholic, melodramatic tune from Mascagni's opera, the title character's theme in Raging Bull and the inspiration for the score of The Godfather.

5. Why'd Ya Do It? - Marianne Faithfull

Mad at myself for not having the time to make Faithfull's March concert, I turned her music on myself. Then I remembered she's the great niece of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, the man who gave his name to masochism.
