Students invited to make a difference
Young people who are inspired to be change makers are invited to join the MaD Good Lab 2011. It is a programme featuring workshops and events on 'Inclusive Design', 'Change In Action', 'A MaD Thing a Day @ Facebook' and 'MaD Trips'.
MaD Trips are an extension of last year's Shanghai Expo trip, where 80 students went to the city for a cultural programme.
'The students told us they really appreciated the trips which helped them to reflect a lot on some social issues,' says Ada Wong Ying-kay, chief executive of the Hong Kong Institute of Contemporary Culture (HKICC).
HKICC started the MaD (Make a Difference) platform last year. The Hong Kong platform aims to empower young people in Asia to create personal, economic, social and environmental change.
This year, MaD Trips will take 24 participants each to four cities: Taipei, Bangkok, Beijing and Seoul. The Taipei and Thailand trips in the summer will explore 'civil society' and 'social innovation', respectively, whereas the Beijing and Seoul trips in the autumn will be about 'arts and culture' and 'creative industry'.
Applications are open for the trips to Taiwan and Thailand, and the deadline is May 23.
