Call for police task force to stop animal cruelty
Nearly 300 people gathered outside police headquarters in Wan Chai yesterday to protest against recent cases of animal cruelty. They want police to set up a task force to protect animals. Lawmakers Gary Chan Hak-kan and Alan Leong Kah-kit were also present. Last week a cat in Yau Ma Tei was shot eight times with an air gun. The group urged police to do more to find the culprit. 'Freeze mob' protest against shark's fin soup
The Avenue of Stars on the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront witnessed a five-minute 'freeze mob' protest by 200 activists urging people not to eat shark's fin soup. The participants first assembled in Admiralty to get the final notification of where the 'freeze' would take place. During such demonstrations, organised online, participants 'freeze' to draw public attention to their cause. Yesterday's event was organised by the Hong Kong Shark Foundation. Ng Kang-chung
