Government to review formula for MTR fares
The government would review the MTR fare adjustment system, deputy transport minister Yau Shing-mu said. The MTR Corp was criticised yesterday at a Legislative Council transport panel meeting for increasing fares by 2.2 per cent next month despite making a large profit. The present policy allows annual fare adjustments under a formula that factors in inflation and wages.

The environmental impact report of a columbarium and nature reserve project in Sha Lo Tung was withdrawn by the Sha Lo Tung Development Company amid legal uncertainty over the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge. It was the third project affected by a court ruling in April that quashed the environmental permit for the bridge.
5 years' jail for drugging and robbing men
Zhou Ruiyan, 35, who gave drug-laced beer to men in parks and stole belongings worth HK$120,000 from them, was jailed for five years. She had pleaded guilty in the Court of First Instance to two counts of administering stupefying drugs and four counts of theft.
University platform safe, MTR Corp insists
The platform at University station was safe, the MTR Corp said, responding to a report in the Chinese-language media that a gap had opened up due to settlement. The gap was the result of sealant on the platform peeling off, it said.
Malaysian jailed for US$13m investment scam
Malaysian businessman Ng Chin-chin, who ran a US$13 million investment scam, was jailed for three years and eight months. Ng, 39, was convicted in the District Court of conspiracy to defraud.
