Nothing can stop Justin Bieber these days. Not pranksters launching eggs at him at a Sydney gig, nor a chest infection in Manila, nor even an embarrassingly low-key reception at our airport. Like it or not, Bieber fever is here to stay. Well, at least until Usher discovers the next floppy-haired YouTube sensation.
The Bieb performed in front of a near-capacity crowd on the Hong Kong leg of his My World Tour. Beliebers, as they're known, were out in full force undeterred by the terrible acoustics at the venue.
Five-member pan-Asian group Blush got the night started with their single Fell in Love With a Song before the Bieb appeared in a white-silver hoodie and trousers combo. He opened with Love Me, which featured some kung fu dance. Slower numbers like Never Let You Go and Favourite Girl were accompanied by Bieber on guitar and he even did a brief drum solo.
One flustered tween got the chance to sit on stage and have Bieber serenade her with One Less Lonely Girl before presenting her with a bouquet of flowers.
No big-name collaborators were on hand but fellow YouTube standout Legaci, also serving as his backup singers, did a nice a cappella medley.
Perhaps the most telling aspect of the entire show was the sight of scores of parents lining the halls outside the arena, waiting to escort their children home.
