Concierges catching on

It had to happen, and the Directory may boast that we were among the first to inform you - concierge services are catching on at certain Hong Kong business centres.

But don't go expecting a frock-coated military type to ring for a bell hop to tend to your baggage and usher you to your desk.

Maybe the day when that happens is yet to come, while some hope it never does.

For the time being, however, Compass Offices offers a concierge service designed to help with 'small but tedious tasks, so you can concentrate on your business'. And no, it doesn't come with the 5-star hotel flourishes of bell ringing and whistling.

But the tasks are akin to what a guest at a hotel can expect.

Dinners at an exclusive restaurant can be booked, travel plans arranged and tickets for a concert or sporting event can be ordered among other services. All this comes on top of the other business centre services a company may expect, such as accounting, visa arrangement and IT support. Compass also has the well-heeled corporate or entrepreneur client in mind, with some of the services available, including the chartering of private jets or helicopters and chauffeurs, albeit in one of its fleet of Toyota Alphard seven-seaters.

But it's luxury all the same.

Discounts are also offered in addition to package holidays, ensuring that a busy executive can dispense with the hassle of booking a weekend break online or through a high street travel agent.

He or she can have this all done without stepping outside a Compass serviced office.

Hotels have long secured a foothold in the meetings and events sector by arranging meetings and providing facilities. Now Compass is also offering the services of an event management team.
