When you're stylish, the sun shines at night

The limelight must have been too bright for the guests at Friday night's opening of eyewear pop-up store WOAW in Causeway Bay's Fashion Walk. Many of the hipster guests sported fancy shades to look oh-so-stylish. For the cool kids at the party, optical accessories are strictly for making a fashion statement.

The WOAW shop that carries eyewear from brands such as Thierry Lasry, Karen Walker and Illesteva is a joint venture between local streetwear brand Clot's founder Kevin Poon and optical chain store LensCrafters.

A photo exhibition featuring style darlings such as actor Sam Lee Chan-sum, lyricist-turned-style guru Wyman Wong Wai-man and singer Anthony Wong Yiu-ming was also unveiled at the store opening.

Poon, who has a collection of hundreds of shades and glasses at home, said his love for eyewear as fashion started when he was a kid.

'I don't need glasses for me to see. My mum used to say that I was crazy when I asked her to buy me glasses,' he said.

Poon's favourite style is round shades and he said his priciest pair was a vintage set that cost him HK$7,000. 'I like to cover my eyes,' he added. 'Especially when you are catching an early flight, you don't want people to look at you.'

Seriously, wearing those flamboyant shades, one couldn't be asking for anything but attention.
