Nothing minimalist about Churchill's troupe as he takes city's art scene to the circus maximus
A broker by day, James Churchill's other identity is that of circus owner, and his troupe comprises a lot of artsy types.
Last week, Churchill presented a two-day exhibition at Zetter Picture Framer in Wyndham Street. The circus-themed exhibition was the first of number to come organised by Churchill's new group, The Art Movement.
Paintings by artists such as Pete Ross, Vladimir Kush, Daniel Peacock and Olgierd Nitka were displayed in a mini circus tent set up in the gallery.
The organiser even took the effort to deck the tent out with straw for a more authentic atmosphere. 'This straw is from China, but don't worry, it is very much cockroach-proof,' Churchill said.
He said he had started the art group with the aim of bringing more diversity to the local art scene.
'I want to explore something different from what's currently offered in Hong Kong. I want maximalism, not minimalism,' Churchill said.
That explains the showgirls in circus outfits, molecular canap?s and Skittles-infused vodka.
'It's to make the experience more complete. Hopefully it excites people to want to see more,' Churchill said.
