Life's a beach for partygoers as Havaianas' app launch turns out to be anything but a flip-flop
Central partygoers left their city-slick duds and fancy heels at home (for once) in favour of flip-flops and beach shorts at Havaianas' iPhone app launch party this week.
It was as if a Brazilian party bomb had exploded all over Ice Street house club Fly, plastering the venue with tropical flowers, huge (fake) palm trees, beach toys, inflatables and, of course, the popular thongs (the kind for your feet, gutterbrains) in every colour imaginable.
'We went a little crazy sticking flip-flops everywhere,' Samantha Kelly, marketing manager of 'fashion bureau' Electric Sekki, said. 'We covered the entire DJ booth, too. I'm crossing my fingers that they don't fall off the walls and into someone's face or drink.'
At the end of the night, guests were all too happy to lend a hand in getting those Havaianas off the wall and into their take-home goody bags. Those who weren't busy running around looking for a matching pair in their size were trying their hand at the iPhone app game on the big touch screen that had been set up. The goal was to sling-shot as many swimmers as possible with a flip-flop.
Competition was fierce between model couple Wiyona Yeung and Ben Au Yeung; but for most other guests, hand-eye co-ordination seemed hard to come by.
