Race is on to find the cleanest way to get about town

Green group Clean Air Network is recruiting teams of two for the 'Airmazing Race: Scavenger hunt for clean air' on June 25.

In the whole-day competition, teams have to race around Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. The goal is to complete a checklist of 14 tasks related to air pollution problems. For example, participants need to find out which street has the worst canyon effect where vehicle exhaust builds up during peak traffic periods or photograph a roadside pollution monitoring station.

'The interactive competition will draw young people's attention to the seriousness of Hong Kong's air pollution problem and what can be done to clean our air,' campaign officer Erica Chan Fong-ying said.

Participants must work out the most efficient routes around the city using zero-emission transport.

'Buses and taxis are high-pollution vehicles, so we recommend teams use the MTR or walk, if possible,' Chan said.

The team who scores the highest number of checklist points and reaches the finishing point at Soho Square in Central quickest will win an iPad, Ocean Park tickets and pizza vouchers.

The age limit is 11 to 18 years old. Applications close on June 8.
