'Super' Lui enjoys sweet taste of success
Trainer Francis Lui Kin-wai chimed in for a 'super' double with rising talent Super Goodies, ridden by Weichong Marwing, and the overdue Super Bobo, who nailed his first win for the season from a wide gate under Brett Prebble.
Prebble was more positive on Super Bobo and reaped the rewards of getting moving early, the pair posting a two-length win in the River Verdon Handicap (1,600m) - taking Lui to 20 wins.
'He's been set an impossible task in many of his runs this season and, in the end, today's win probably flattered him a little bit,' Prebble said. 'The softer tempo allowed us to get going and make our sprint past the others, and he is actually quite tough, so I wasn't worried at all about whether he was going to stop.'
Earlier, Marwing capitalised on his prior association with the promising Super Goodies to claim the three-year-old's first win in the Privilege Handicap (1,200m) after guiding the horse in his two prior runs down the straight. 'Super Goodies is not the biggest horse around, he looks like he's got a bit of a sway back stance, like a gangster, but he's been working well and obviously he liked the 1,200 metres better,' Marwing said.
'I think he'll get over further in time, but he's still inclined to do a few things wrong, but today he had all the favours, drew a good gate in three and had cover with a horse to his outside. He will definitely improve, he's only young and still has a lot to learn and some potential to develop further. There's a couple of wins in him for sure.'
Marwing positioned Super Goodies beautifully behind the speed, before easing into space to record a length win over Happy Yeah Yeah (Douglas Whyte), with a further 2 1/2 lengths away to Hero's Win (Piere Strydom) in third.
