Admirers aplenty for the raciest show in town as Porsche puts its latest Speedster on display

Wednesday night, when it seemed like everybody was at Art HK's Vernissage opening, a small crowd of car enthusiasts and high society folks were at the Repulse Bay Club for the unveiling of Porsche's new, HK$4 million Speedster.

The new model is a celebration of the German marque's 25th anniversary, said Derek Tong, general manager of Porsche Centre Hong Kong. Only 356 cars have been made, and Hong Kong will have only one.

'Only one driver in Hong Kong will be able to enjoy the greatest driving experience ever created,' claimed Tong, adding that a few buyers were already interested.

The baby blue coloured car sports a 3.8-litre flat-six power unit that delivers 408 horsepower. What does this mean?

'It can go real fast,' said Tong.

The Speedster name holds a special place in Posrche history, going all the way back to the first sports car produced by the company some 60 years ago.

Ana Rivera, who played car model for the night, said the look of the car reminded her of a vintage feel, although she would never drive it because of fear of traffic in Hong Kong.

'This is my dream car. I'd need to work a lot harder to be able to afford it though,' she added.
