How would you keep cool this summer?

Kobe Lee Wai-ling, 16, Fung Kai Liu Man Shek Tong Secondary School

My way of keeping cool is to wear a 'cooling mask'. First, put a wet handkerchief in a Ziploc bag and keep it in the fridge. The handkerchief will turn into an ice-cold mask. Close your eyes and put it on your face.

I would dress in white when outdoors. This is because white, or a light colour, absorbs heat slowly.

It will keep me cooler.

If I am extremely hot, I will stick a cooling gel sheet on my back.

It will lower the body temperature immediately.

C.H.I.L.L. - Cotton, H20, Ice, Laugh and Lights out. Cotton for clothing; H20 for thirst; ice and a positive mood will lighten your summer; light bulbs generate heat so make use of sunlight.

Zoe Chung Suet-yee, 18, Hang Seng School of Commerce

Wearing light-coloured clothes in summer seems to be a simple concept to keep us cool but we, in the pursuit of fashion, tend to ignore it. Dark-coloured outfits may be fashionable but they absorb heat faster.

Janet Tam Ka-wing, 16, St Rose of Lima's College

I would pour a bucket of ice in the bathtub and jump in. This would definitely reduce my body temperature and refresh my mind. I would also prepare some cool fruit punch.

Ella Chan, 16, Chinese International School

I would keep cool by wearing suitable outfits. This means short sleeves or sleeveless shirts, skirts, shorts, sandals. I would also avoid wearing black. Pick airy fabrics like chiffon, and not wool.

Jimin Kang, 13, South Island School

I'd definitely lay out my bamboo rugs! Not only do they look durable and simplistic, they are extremely pleasant to sit, lie and sleep on! With the constantly cool temperature of these rugs, you don't sweat all the time, especially in the scorching heat of Hong Kong.

And of course, an ice cream or two wouldn't hurt either.

Edelweiss Tuet Tsz-ching, 14, Our Lady of the Rosary College

This is the best way for me to keep cool. Hope it helps!

It's essential for you to keep urinating. Ok, don't laugh! I'm making a point here.

When you urinate, you're not only producing waste but also releasing the heat stored in your body.

So remember to bring along a water bottle with you in summer!

Brian Ng, 16, Diocesan Boys' School

The best way to stay cool is to turn off your air conditioner - off, not on. Besides being a key cause of global warming, air conditioners produce heat due to their inefficiency.

My guess is that you know this, but allow instant gratification to get the better of you. So consider meditation, ice cream, swimming and idling beneath the shade.

Ken Cheung Kwan-kiu, 16, YMCA of Hong Kong Christian College

I plan to go to the beach with my friends and have an air con-free summer. First, I will put on some sunblock, lie on my grass mat, cover my face with a wet towel and feel the sea breeze. Then, I will enjoy an ice-cold Cola or a delicious ice cream from the tuckshop. Together with swimming, it will be perfect.
