Leaping into the record books

On a weekend when surviving the blistering heat was an achievement in itself, Tse Mang-chi (pictured) set a Hong Kong record of 12.61 metres in the women's triple jump during round three of the two-day Xtep Athletic League at Tseung Kwan O. Tse, 29, who came second in the long jump event, is something of a veteran in local track and field, but she has been chipping away at the triple jump record for the past few years. 'The previous record of 12.60 metres was set in Pusan, South Korea, in 1997 by Li Chun-nei, and I've been jumping around that mark for a couple of years now,' said Tse, who has a part-time office job and also coaches a school's athletics team part time. 'I was quite a surprised to see that I'd actually broken the record, and now that I've actually done it I want to do it again,' she said.
