Hi Everyone

Last December, the YP deputy ed decided that her New Year's Resolution was to 'travel'. Now, while that may not be as impressive as, say, doing more exercise, I decided I would do the same thing, and rack up some stamps in my dogport.

Travelling to a new country is always an educational experience. Not only might there be a different language to get to grips with, but there is also always new food, culture, music, fashion, sport and games to explore, try out and take back home with you.

We're lucky in Hong Kong to be exposed to so many different cultures and nationalities, but I don't think we take advantage of our cosmopolitan city. How many of you have tried Nepalese curry, or played the French game petanque, or visited a mosque to find out about Islam? Probably not many, even though you can do these things here. But when you're in a new country, you tend to make more of an effort to try and learn new things.

This week I'm in France and Spain, and eating a lot of cheese and bread. When I get back next week, I'll start a travelogue, writing about the trips I've been on so far - and those I'm looking forward to.

And if I've given you the travel bug, but you're staying in Hong Kong this summer, don't worry - we have a new column called 'Get Lost' running over the holiday. It's all about cool places, and what it's like to visit them. Even if you're not actually getting on a plane this holiday, there'll be plenty for you to read and dream about!
