ISLAND paradise

Bali beaches are paradise for stressed-out city souls. Catering to foreigners who yearn to own a tiny piece of Indonesia's 'island of the gods', developers are creating condos and villas that would meet the most exacting standards.

Two are on sale in Gapura Vista, a gated community in Bukit, an area nicknamed the 'Beverly Hills of Bali' and 'Millionaires' Row'. Poised on an elevated plateau that meets limestone cliffs sweeping down to the ocean, these luxurious villas stand 85 metres above the sea, affording 180-degree views of the Indian Ocean.

They offer privacy, and are just 30 minutes from the airport and 10 minutes from Nusa Dua hotels, restaurants, malls and golf.

Designed by renowned architects Habitat5, each of the 10 villas has its own style. The K5 villa at Gapura Vista has five bedrooms and is priced at US$2.5 million, while the K3 villa has four, priced at US$3 million. They come with Bose sound systems, Wi-fi and 50-inch televisions.
