Police crack credit card racket operating in Jordan

Police have uncovered the first counterfeit credit card manufacturing centre in a decade with the arrest of a 28-year-old mainland man and seizure of 82 bogus cards at a guest house in Jordan. Officers said the centre was run by a syndicate that used the fake cards coded with stolen data to withdraw about HK$1 million from ATMs in the past two or three weeks.

Australian jailed two months for breaching visa

An Australian visitor was jailed for two months yesterday for breaching his conditions of stay by giving training courses at a hotel. Herold Karl Gerd, 58, a safety risk management consultant, arrived in the city on May 17 and gave training courses on risk management in a conference room at the Metropark Hotel Kowloon two days later, Sha Tin Court heard.

Hottest June day in more than 30 years

Yesterday's 34.5 degrees Celsius made it the city's hottest June day since 1980. The Observatory said temperatures would remain high today but were expected to fall a little over the weekend, with a few squally showers predicted.
