Epic 90s boy bands New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys have joined forces to release NKOTBSB to coincide with the US national tour that begins this month.

The album alternates top songs from each group as voted for by their fans, and rounds off with newly recorded tracks by the new super-group. Featuring such old favourites as the fun Step by Step, and the extremely catchy Larger than Life, the disc is an enjoyable ride down memory lane for at least two generations of pop lovers for whom these songs featured on the soundtracks of their teens.

Most notable is the new hit single Don't Turn Out the Lights, an electrifying mash-up featuring all nine singers, first performed onstage at the 2010 American Music Awards. The super-catchy lyrics and infectious beat scream to be played over and over again.

The final song, Mash Up, is an irresistible medley of the beats and vocals that make NKOTBSB such a successful team. It's also a great sing-along despite a rarity of meaningful lyrics.

The magical touch that made the two bands so famous is still very much in evidence, but the album would have a greater impact on new listeners if there were more new tracks.

All in all, the mix of songs buzzes with adrenaline and is perfect for the dance floor. Definitely a must-buy for any fans of the boys' heydays.
