A tropical depression is forecast to bring stormy weather to the city over the next few days, with temperatures remaining high.

The Observatory hoisted the No 1 typhoon signal last night.

The tropical depression over the northeastern South China Sea was expected to gain momentum and strengthen as it drew nearer to Hong Kong.

It was forecast to move west at about 15km/h in the general direction of the Guangdong coast.

It should be nearest to Hong Kong tomorrow, bringing stormy weather, including heavy rain, for about 48 hours.
