Red-hot Whyte can light up the Valley

Punters can bank on Douglas Whyte keeping the good times rolling with Million Darling in the final leg of the Triple Trio at Happy Valley tomorrow night after his mammoth haul at Sha Tin last Sunday.

The Dennis Yip Chor-hong-trained four-year-old has started just twice this season, both times fresh from a decent break between runs, for a win over 1,200m at the Valley and a short-head second to Spicy Shrimp over the minimum Valley trip.

The Canny Lad gelding gets ideal circumstances in the Bravo Handicap (1,000m) with 119 pounds to carry with Whyte aboard from barrier four, and punters can load up on the horse through the TT as a nailed-on top-three chance.

The John Moore-trained Time After Time appears a serious danger with Darren Beadman in the saddle from gate seven, but the three-year-old will need to lump 132 pounds and is not guaranteed to get the same cosy run in transit as Million Darling.

Time After Time comes off a well beaten third to Bear Hero over 1,000m at Sha Tin last start, but looks better suited here, given his off-the-pace style of racing.

Tony Cruz's Eternal Beauty has done his best work down the Sha Tin 1,000m to date, but cannot be discounted as a place hope, and has placed in three from six starts at the Valley as well.

Cruz's team continue to produce the goods, and the premiership leader will be hoping to squeeze one more win from his Towkay flyer before the season closes.

Caspar Fownes' entry, Ride On The Fire, must also be treated with plenty of respect at the bottom of the weights with 117 pounds.

Jacky Tong Chi-kit takes the ride and there will be no mincing words when the trainer gives his jockey the leg-up, Fownes will want his gelding to lead from gate five and will be hoping Tong and the 117 pounds will make the horse impossible to gun down.

The opening leg is the complete opposite proposition, with the Class Four stayers set to slug it out over the 2,200m journey, and consistent on-pacer Healthy Manner must once again be the one to bank on for a top-three finish for trainer Danny Shum Chap-shing and jockey Beadman.

Healthy Manner has excelled over the long Valley routes with Beadman in the irons, winning at 2,200m and 1,800m, also placing second three times, once with Maxime Guyon in the saddle. There is little doubt the Fusaichi Pegasus gelding is limited but, at a ratings mark of 48, with good course and distance stats, Beadman will be hoping to extract yet another victory from the in-form four-year-old stayer.

Whyte again has a great chance aboard the John Size-trained Prosperity, who makes his first start at the Valley and is likely to appreciate a bit more cushion underfoot as well as the extra trip after being outgunned over 1,800m at Sha Tin last time out.

Winning Pal is in fine form and should not be ignored with strong rider Tye Angland in the stirrups, while Mount Victory, Chantilly and Super Strike, who wears blinkers for the first time, also have claims lower down in the weights.

The central leg is not so straight-forward, but Whyte has again got the box seat to claim another victory with the consistent Great Renown for the soon to be retired Alex Wong Yu-on.

Great Renown sported blinkers for the first time last start and came up three-quarter length second to Fownes' in-form My Way over this 1,650m journey on June 1 and, from gate five, should again be right in the finish in what looks a very shallow race.
