Brink's - the security firm with the ubiquitous armoured vehicles - is being sued for HK$1.3 million over a delivery gone wrong. The company wasn't shuttling bags of money around town, though. Instead, it is accused of irreparably damaging two precious jade bangles.

The bangles were part of a two-suitcase, HK$350 million delivery last September that also included diamond rings. They were to be transported from the Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair at the Convention and Exhibition Centre to the Tsim Sha Tsui offices of On Tung Company, an exporter and manufacturer of jewellery, watches and clocks.

According to a writ issued on Friday, Stanley Chu, vice-president of On Tung Company, saw cracks in the bangles four days later, which reduced their value by HK$1.3 million. Both Chu and general manager Raymond Chan stressed the fragility of the goods, the writ claims, with Chan drawing arrows on the shipment to show which part of the suitcase should face upwards, after the guards refused to mark them.
