Sing a song to rid yourself of fear

Everyone has someone or something he or she fears. When we are afraid, our heart is as weak as a feather; it can be blown away.

During times like this, singing can help us. People who are afraid should sing, because singing eases our mind and makes us feel good.

Melodies will constantly flow into our mind and help us relax in the face of fear. We will soon forget we are afraid. As time passes, the fear will no longer exist.

We have to get used to dealing with our fears, and singing a song is one way of doing that.

Thank you for your letter, Sonam. Anyone who has watched The Sound of Music will surely remember the song I Have Confidence. In its time, it was an anthem of bravery, sung by many people who were facing something uncertain or scary.

You are correct when you say we will not be afraid of something once we become used to it. Much of what we fear today is irrational. For instance, if we are at home and there is a wild storm, we might feel frightened. But we know we are perfectly safe. Singing a song then would certainly help.
