The ongoing facelift in Lan Kwai Fong might have made others think twice about opening a business in the area, but Marisa Zeman obviously has faith in her father.

The daughter of Lan Kwai Fong Group founder Allan Zeman, Marisa took a leap of faith and opened her stand-alone fashion boutique, Nude is Rude, in the area on Tuesday.

The self-taught designer started the label last year, selling her clothes in her showroom and the occasional trunk show. It wasn't until this March that she was convinced by a friend that it was time to open a boutique.

Three months later, the shop is up and running. 'It happened very fast,' she said.

The first thing on her to-do list was to find space. 'I looked in SoHo, Gough Street and finally decided on Lan Kwai Fong,' she said. 'The area is really going to improve. I can see it returning to its heyday in the 80s, when there were restaurants, bars and also retailers.'

The designer launched her spring-summer collection to coincide with the shop opening.

'My resort-wear designs have evolved more into travel wear and lounge suits,' she said.
