Zhejiang official is focus of graft probe
The party chief of the Zhejiang Food and Drug Administration is being investigated by anti-graft authorities, reports say.
Huang Meng, 51, has allegedly been tied to the embezzlement of state-owned enterprise assets and to profiting from the buying and selling of industrial land while he was an official in Huzhou. He was reportedly taken away on June 27 after being called to a provincial government meeting. His family members were taken away that evening.
Before becoming party chief and head of the administration in January 2007, Huang was deputy party secretary, standing deputy mayor and mayor of Huzhou.
The 21st Century Economic Herald reported on Saturday that Zhejiang Joinway Silk Group bought 110 million yuan (HK$132.3 million) worth of assets of Huzhou Silk Group, a state-owned enterprise, in 2001. Joinway also acquired assets of two other indebted silk companies. Its chairman, Sun Juemin, was Huang's brother-in-law.
