Aveda Men Pure-formance Dual Action Aftershave

Claim: A naturally derived, two-in-one aftershave and moisturiser, enhanced with the brand's exclusive 'phytoactive' blend of ingredients. Intended to prevent ingrown hairs, improve skin tone and texture, and control excess oil.

Pevonia Botanica Soothing After Shaving Balm

Claim: A light aftershave balm that moisturises, decongests and desensitises. Packed with extracts of green tea and ginkgo biloba, it allegedly hydrates while combating free radicals and speeding up healing.

Elemis Daily Moisture Boost Time for Men

Claim: A hydrating moisturiser that's meant to be used as an aftershave, this blend of Polynesian green tamanu oil and cactus cerus flower helps hydrate, soothe and recharge freshly sheared skin.

The verdict: Aveda's potent combination of moisturiser and aftershave worked wonders. Its blend of lavender, vetiver and lemon make both shaving and non-shaving mornings feel refreshing. Pevonia was equally impressive as a post-shave balm, minimising blemishes and soothing skin, but it never moisturised as well as a standalone product, leaving the face a tad dry. Elemis had a weighted texture, making skin feel thick and tired. Its aftershave showed average performance.
