Beijing to welcome Iraqi prime minister

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki will visit China tomorrow for a five-day trip focusing on energy, transport, agriculture, services and investment. He will meet President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao to discuss how to expand bilateral co-operation. China is a leading player in Iraq's oil sector. The Al-Ahdab oilfield in central Iraq, which is operated by China National Petroleum Corporation, began producing this month at 60,000 barrels a day.

Italy's foreign minister starts China visit

Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini will pay an official visit to China on Monday. Frattini and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi will co-chair the fourth joint meeting of the China-Italy Governmental Committee. Financial markets plummeted this week on worries over Italy's financial stability. China had earlier pledged to support the euro consistently as Europe battles its way out of its sovereign debt crisis.
