During Monday's wushu event at the Student Games in Baotou, Hong Kong medal hopeful Juanita Mok Uen-ying competed in the girls' taijiquan event final - and came up somewhat short.

Juanita (right) was the second athlete among nine finalists to display her taolu skills to the judges. She committed minor errors in her performance.

Her score was 8.36, which landed her in eighth position. The winner, Zhu Hongyan from Shanghai, scored 9.30.

Juanita had sustained an arm injury during a training session before her departure to Baotou. That affected her performance.

'I am not sad [about finishing eighth],' she said. 'I'll learn from the experience and start all over again so I can do better at the Innercity Games in October.'

Her coach Lo Nga-ching was satisfied with Juanita's performance. 'Juanita was under huge pressure today,' Lo said.

'I am confident she'll do better next time.'
