June Jacobs Pore Purifying Toner HK$320/200ml
Antiseptic peppermint and thyme extracts remove excess oil and surface impurities, fenugreek extract soothes the skin while salicylic and lactic acids provide gentle exfoliation. A natural antioxidant blend protects the skin from toxins and prevents premature ageing.
Benefit - The POREfessional, available at Lane Crawford HK$290/22ml
For those not content to wait for their pores to disappear, this is a 'pro' balm that promises to deftly cover them up. It has a lightweight, oil-free formula that glides on - either under or on top of make-up - to create the illusion of smooth, unblemished skin.
Perricone MD Intensive Pore Minimizer HK$450/4oz (120ml), available at Joyce Beauty
Tackles enlarged pores and oily skin. Salicylic acid removes wax and dirt, alpha lipoic acid refines the skin texture, and dimethylaminoethanol tightens the skin, improving the appearance of pores. Suitable for most skin types, including oily skin or skin showing loss of elasticity.
Verdict: Benefit's POREfessional is a good quick fix and works best as a primer, particularly under light powder make-up. It does have a silky texture and, if you use enough of it, appears to magically camouflage pores. June Jacobs' toner has a peppermint smell to it that will make using it a daily pleasure. It's refreshing and lightly astringent, and its paraben and preservative-free formula are pluses, though it contains alcohol, which can be drying. Dr Perricone comes top of the class: skin instantly feels fresh and clean. Pores appear tighter - more so with repeated use.
