Project seeks to help young green leaders
If you have a brilliant idea about a solution to climate change and sustainability issues, here is your chance to make it happen.
The British Council has launched an innovation competition, E-Idea, with a private company, Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA).
The competition is open to people aged between 18 and 35 in seven countries: China, Japan, Australia, Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. It is designed to provide innovative minds with the incentive, seed money, training and support to develop projects to tackle climate change and environmental problems.
To win, participants have to address some of the biggest environmental challenges facing their local communities. These may include waste reduction, efficient use of resources, transport and travel, energy reduction, water efficiency and sustainable designs.
Six of the best ideas will be selected, and receive technical, business, marketing, networking and financial resources.
Young eco-entrepreneurs will be eligible for GBP3,000 (about HK$40,000) to help implement their ideas. The winning teams will also have the opportunity to work with LRQA's global business network of 50,000 clients.
'The British Council is delighted to work with LRQA on this project,' said Huw Oliphant, project manager for E-idea at the British Council.
'We are confident that this alliance will give real support to young leaders who want to make a difference while raising awareness of climate and sustainability issues.'
The deadline for Hong Kong is Sunday.
