Footie action

AND you thought goal-mouth action was all about Bruce Grobelaar and the tabloids? Think again.

As our picture shows, Eastern stars Dale Tempest and Ian Hesford have decided to put the fun back into football by teaming up a with two-wheeled, low-slung centre back and an attractive young woman in a Santa suit.

There is, we promise, a reason for it all. As part of next weekend's Wan Chai Christmas Carnival, the pair will be attempting to save penalties (although Tempest is better known for scoring them). Visitors can pay $10 to take three penalties at the Southorn Playground. Anyone who converts all three will go into the Sunday afternoon (December 4) final and have a chance of winning prizes. As with other activities, the money raised will go to the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children.

As ever with Wan Chai Association events (which have been few and far between lately due to bureaucratic snafu), the emphasis will be firmly on food and drink. In all, 66 booths and activities have been lined up, as well as 19 hours of music (but, be warned, in keeping with Hong Kong's Ministry of No Fun mentality, performers like United Tribes, May Ip and Nogabe will not be turning up the amps).

And for those who are still wondering, our photo is rounded out by Cathay flight attendant Sika Chin (who will be helping out at the event) and Paul Choi Chi-chung of the Motorbike Cruisers Club, which will be exhibiting 'big bikes'.
